Bhopal: Sectarian violence erupted in the city with over 60 houses of a minority community torched by a mob on Thursday. Over 75 people were injured in clashes between two sects of Muslims today.The clashes took place this morning in the Nawab Colony after a late-night altercation over a place of worship in which a cleric was injured.Unruly mobs went on the rampage, dragging out women and children and thrashing them in public.Police arrived late and resorted to lathicharge and tear gas shelling to restore order. A house-to-house search was carried out and sticks, sharp-edged weapons, firearms and iron rods recovered.The police said over three dozen houses in Karond region, near the defunct Union Carbide factory, were set ablaze and around 60 vehicles damaged. Two of the injured are said to be critical.
